The new year will see Dubai's healthcare system replaced with a new one, in keeping with the strategic plan for the emirate, laid out in April by
His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. In his speech, Shaikh Mohammad mapped out his vision for Dubai, including elevating the quality of healthcare services and the wellbeing of the population.
"This will be achieved by improving governance of the healthcare sector; improving healthcare planning; ensuring access to health insurance; encouraging private hospitals to gain international accreditation; developing licensing standards for medical staff; and focusing on health awareness to improve public attitudes towards health," he added.
Two months later, he created Dubai Health Authority (DHA), tasked with reaching these goals replacing and expanding functions that the Department of Health and Medical Services (Dohms) is currently serving, and figure out a new funding mechanism for healthcare.
At the helm is Qadi Saeed Al Murooshid, director-general of Dohms and the newly-formed DHA. Over the months, the 36-year-old has been busy formulating the future of Dubai healthcare. |
